Color’s Impact on Mind and Body in Interior Environments.

The colors that surround us every day play an important role in our emotions and behavior when we engage with a specific finish material or environment. This course provides an overview of how the human eye sees color, the effect it can have on our moods, behavior, and physiology, and lastly, how it can be used as a powerful tool to send messages about spaces or products to consumers.

Learning objectives: At the end of this program, participants will be able to:

  • Recognize the three basic characteristics of color: hue, value, and chroma and how they determine how color is perceived
  • Describe both positive and negative color meanings
  • Recognize the significant psychological and physiological effects color can have and its use in design for healing
    environments, environments for the aging, and commercial and residential applications
  • Discuss the use of color in design, including the importance of context such as age, gender, and culture of the intended audience
