Join us for an evening of fast-paced storytelling and inspiration, Pecha Kucha style, with host Jay Ferracane (owner of Angry Bovine Studio and founder of “Caffeinated Mornings,” a monthly creative speaking series). The presentations will center around the theme “Design that Delights” where an interdisciplinary panel of Boulder’s modern makers will explore how good design makes our lives better. We’ll span topics from what inspires, what motivates, and Vitruvius’s three part model of good design.
Vitruvius proposed the following three elements of design as a model for good design
- Firmatis: It should stand up robustly and remain in good condition — be durable.
- Utilitas: It should be useful and function well for the people using it — be functional.
- Venustatis: It should delight people and raise their spirits — be beautiful.
The question on the table is: do these principles, meant to apply to physical architecture, apply to all disciplines? We believe that they do, and that applying them can help us all be better at what we do.
